Evolve Already!
Politics these days has me tired. After hearing what Mike Huckabee said, (as if a wedding ring is a better thing than a MIRACULOUS, HUMAN LIFE) I just didn’t have the energy to be as angry as it would make me if I dwelled on it.
This is one of the reasons I heart Rhonda.
A local theater showed the original West Side Story (1961) on the screen a few weeks back. It was wonderful! I went in, though, expecting to see archaic and outdated racial issues.
Um, no. In the last fifty years, we’ve made like one step of progress, MAYBE. The West Side Story was as applicable to society today as it was fifty years ago. How sad is that?
Anne Rice, on her Facebook page (always a fascinating read and discussion, even if you’re not into her books), refers to the current political climate as the “War on Women.” From Charlie Sheen to all the abortion issues she posted on her Facebook page, it’s sickening.
I’m tired of the hate talk on women, immigrants, religions, sexualities—all of it.
Even though I’m almost always a Democrat, I was ready to respectfully listen to what Mike Huckabee felt he would bring to a presidency. Not anymore. I’m sure he thought a celebrity was an easy target and a quick way to generate some publicity and gain the support of some Tea Partiers, but you know what I’m tired of?
I’m tired of the fact that hate is so effective in uniting people and creating political power.
Could the human race please evolve already?

No kidding. Rock on, girl. And I heart you too! XOXO

Yep, that’s about it. We’ve made some progress, but nowhere near as much as we should’ve. About all I can think of right now is that if WSS were remade today, they’d likely cast a Latina actress to play Maria, rather than a white woman. That’s something, certainly, although there’s still enough whitewashing around that I’m only willing to say “likely” and not “definitely.” Aside from that…? I got nothing.

Amen, sister. Thanks for sharing!
Republicans are lying, racist, enemies of every decent human being and everything that is good about human civilization. Anyone today who chooses to associate themselves with these destructive, ignorant thugs is not worth listening to.
Huckabee is one of the dangerous ones because he sounds so aww shucks funny and down home when he talks, but the shit that he believes gives me the willies. Stay far far away.
Natasha, great post, as usual. I nearly always vote republican and even I am sick of Mike Huckabee. Unfortunately, the republican folks who are loving, caring, and generous (MOST ARE) are not in politics, not in front of a camera, and certainly not in anyone’s face. Thanks for the link to Anne Rice’s FB page.
Ellen — that’s exactly the problem. Even as a Democrat, I know there are intelligent, thoughtful Republicans. They’re just not the ones running the party these days; letting the radical whack-jobs take over is throwing everything out of balance. :/
