It’s a Sunny, Windy, Coldy Day
Looks like a sunny, warm, summer day, doesn’t it? Yes. But no. It is cold! We’re talking high-40s cold, mid-30s-at-night cold. We wake up in the middle of the night and four cats are all huddled between Glenn and I. We stay warm. It’s cozy. It’s nice.
Until, that is, we have to go to the bathroom. Because while I never had to wake up and go to the bathroom in the middle of the night when I lived in a house, when I camp, I have to go two or three times before the sun rises.
So on go the sandals, over my shoulders goes a sweatshirt, and off I go running to the showerhouse, freezing my toes and legs and ass off. (Although, come to think of it, if it could freeze my ass off a little quicker, I wouldn’t mind.)
But it’s such a beautiful day, I hate to spend it inside.
The campfire is cooking our lunch beside me, but because the sun is so bright, I can only see my screen if I stretch a black nightgown over my head and my laptop. I wanted Glenn to take a picture of this setup so I could prove my ingenuity, but he said, “You look ridiculous!”
So here is ridiculous me, happy as a clam, layered in two sweatshirts and a turtleneck. (Translation: My arms aren’t that fat!)
Yes, I could have cropped that better, but I didn’t want to cut out my Jeep. Isn’t she pretty? Yes. I am way too crazy about my Jeep. I dream of three weeks from now, when the top will be off, and we’ll be driving around the 80+ degree desert, the hot sun beating on our skin. Woo-hoo!
How was your weekend? Isn’t fall grand? What plans do you have for this season?

Natasha Fondren is an eBook developer, writer, and classical pianist. After a fifteen-year piano teaching career, she moved to Arizona and built a book design business. She enjoys the lizards and desert heat in Arizona with her Border Collie, Padfoot, and her cat, Dixie Doodle.
I was hoping you’d take a picture of that.
LOL, Mark!
You look so cute. It’s about the same degrees by us. I wore my winter jacket with gloves and a hat on our walk today. Not the hat with earflaps yet. I’ll envy you when you’re in that 80 degree weather.
My ideas for the season is to finish my book! I want to do some art projects, too. I’m feeling the urge to get back to it. This week I’m going to at least one craft/art store and ask a few questions. I have some great ideas for holiday presents, and an art piece for our bedroom.
Brrr, Edie! It’s been pretty warm this afternoon (almost 58!), but freezing at night. I can’t wait for Arizona!
I didn’t know you did art projects. I didn’t know that at all! What are you planning to do?
Too cute, Natasha! Love the look!
Same weather here as yours and Edie’s. Cold with frost warning in effect. We went to the local apple farm today and bought some golden delicious apples. The orchards were picture perfect; bright red gems against the green backdrop of tree branches. Totally gorgeous! Days like these make me forget that the howling winds are just around the corner.
Why thank you, Kath! LOL!
You went to the apple farm! Everyone’s been going! I hope we can go this weekend. I’m DYING for some fresh apple cider!
I think you look adorable! And the campfire looks so cozy!
My husband loves making fires. You’ve inspired me to nag him into making one tonight. Plus, they kill the stink bugs which come in through the chimneys.
It is cozy, Robin! I think I was a fire-maniac in another life. I love fire. In college, I built a fire on my dorm room floor. It seemed the thing to do at the time, LOL!
I love that you took a picture with the nightgown! Yay for the desert in just a few weeks!!
My weekend was busy co-hosting a 12 year old’s b-day party. I’m exhausted! But the cake turned out good.
Nadine, I can’t wait! The cake looked AWESOME! Way cool, LOL! I’m still tickled pink at that piano cake!
I want that Jeep.
She’s my baby, RJ! Isn’t she pretty?
Great photo! A true writer in progress!!
LOL, Barrie!
I love the picture!
I’m glad you’re enjoying your new life, even if it does present new challenges.
Yeah, I complain, but I’m really happy as a plum. I’m just not out of the habit of complaining yet, LOL!
The weather is just starting to turn here (Central Connecticut) so it’s still comfortable enough to wear a hoodie and no jacket.
Oh nice, G! That’s perfect. The trees are turning here, which I LOVE.
Yes, a purty jeep. I wouldn’t mind a bit of cool weather here. We’ve been very hot and humid for most of the week.
Totally preening about my Jeep.
If I could trade you, Charles, I would!
Oh my, Natasha, you’re way braver than I am! I hate camping. My husband and kids love it, but man, I’m just not that much of a nature person… though I do love campfires… they’re way better when you get to go home to an actual bed.
It’s been pretty cold here this weekend. My son had a football game yesterday morning and it was 31 degrees out there! Oy, too cold for October and I’m afraid we’re going to miss all the great fall colors because the leaves will fall all die too early. Then it’ll probably be too warm for snow at Christmas and I’ll really be bummed.
Aw, LOL! Some people just do, Merry!
Skipping fall is awful. And I hate it when Christmas has no snow!
Frankly, I can’t wait for April! November’s arrived early here too.
My family used to spend summers at a cottage with an outhouse but, hey, I wasn’t ten yet. I could take that kind of thing in stride back then. You’re roughing it!
I feel like we missed summer, Eric! We used to camp without anything but a tent and stuff. Had a tree shower and porta potty and stuff. I feel like we’re luxury-camping with a camper with stove and heat and stuff, LOL.
Come to think of it, the porta potty was a whole lot closer than the shower house, though…
