Before and After

Do you see how ugly this ceiling is? To fully appreciate the “after” picture, make sure you notice the ugly, exposed wires, the peeling contact paper on the ceilings, the vent fan with no vent, and the ugly color.

Glenns Camera 329

And now for the “after” picture. I did all the painting. It took us an hour to put a ceiling panel in the spot missing one. We bent and squeezed it up there, but in actuality you’re supposed to take the entire roof off and work from the top down. We just don’t have the tools and means to do that on the road. It worked out, though. Glenn found a vent fan thing, so that made it prettier, big-time.

Isn’t she a pretty ceiling? I’m so proud.

I’m excited to get on the road, but I feel like it’s never going to happen. It will, but tying up loose ends takes FOREVER. And I’m learning that if I go three days without going to a bookstore, I go mad.

Seriously, today I was disappointed because I got up late, which meant I would “only” have ELEVEN HOURS to sit in the bookstore today. ONLY! But seriously, I’d hoped to get here at 9am, which meant I would have 14 hours. Oh well.

And every time Glenn finds a campground, I ask, “How far is the closest bookstore?” At which point he often says, “About two hours.”

That’s unacceptable. As much as I love the wild, I NEED MY BOOKSTORES. I’m going to try and go without for a whole month. So we’ll see how crazy I go.

What about you? Are you addicted to bookstores? And do you think my new ceiling is pretty? :-)

Your new ceiling looks very pretty – great job! It’s hard to believe it’s the same space.

But at least you’ll now have something pretty to look at when you can’t get to the bookstore. :)

Although, as much as I love bookstores (and will probably go today) I can’t imagine spending 11 – 14 hours in one! LOL

    • Natasha Fondren says:

Thanks, Kate! I just love it! I can’t stop looking at it, LOL!

For me, I just want to touch all the books, read them all, plus write. And there’s never enough time in the day…

  • Melanie says:

It really is amazing how much an improvement like that can change the entire place. Great work!

I think I win the award for going the longest without entering a bookstore when I’d really like to go at least once a week. I get to go on my annual trip home. *sigh*

    • Natasha Fondren says:

Thanks, Melanie! I’m preening too much, aren’t I? LOL!

Oh. My. God. Wow. I didn’t think of that. My heart goes out to you! I think that sounds even worse than the gunfire!

  • Edie says:

Your ceiling looks great! Painting is a lot like revising. You can pretty it up with both of them.

14 hours would be way too much for me. I’d buy too many books and spend too much money. And my dog and cat would miss me. But I imagine you get a lot of writing done at the bookstore.

    • Natasha Fondren says:

Good analogy, Edie! If only I’d talked to you first, I could have had a good blog post on that, LOL! :-)

Yeah, I get a lot of writing, and a lot of reading I can’t afford to buy. I fully intend to buy all the books once I can afford them…

  • Nadine says:

Wow, what a difference!! It looks great!!!

I heart bookstores. Haven’t been in one for a few months, may have to change that in the next week.

  • Robin Altman says:

It looks wonderful! As good as new! (Not that I saw it when it was new.)

I’m addicted to Amazon. Seriously, I spend at least 2 grand a year there. I cannot resist! But if I had a brick-and-mortar store less than 2 hours away (I don’t, unless you count the Hallmark store, a crappy used bookstore or Wal*Mart)I’d go there by preference. AND I’d buy less.

    Your ceiling looks marvelous.

I think you might save up for a sony reader, the new version that’s coming out soon. That way, you can have ebooks.

    • Natasha Fondren says:

Wow, Written! I think I might have to learn to love Amazon. Thanks about the ceiling!

I have a Kindle, which I love more than my life itself. Or, almost.

  • Angie says:

I’m absolutely addicted to bookstores, although having a fixed address means I can get my fix from online. :)

I also have to say that if those wires were hot, “ugly” was the least of your problems. :/ I’m glad you got it fixed.

  • Eric Mayer says:

Naw, I’m not addicted to bookstores, just books.

Ceiling looks great. My brother can do neat stuff like that. Somehow the handyman gene passed me by, unfortunately.

    • Natasha Fondren says:

My dad used to do a ton of building and let me help, so somehow it got stuck in my blood, even though I don’t really know how to do anything, LOL!

  • Elizabeth K says:

What a great job! Your ceiling looks awesome. I painted my ugly paneled wall in the living room this week and I’m telling you, the room looks a lot bigger now! Which is nice since I got a new couch (finally) that is quite a bit larger than my old one.

If you can’t locate a bookstore, could I speak up for my profession and humbly suggest a library? The books may not be all brand new, but there’s plenty of them, and computers and movies and wireless internet and all that good stuff.

    • Natasha Fondren says:

Oooh, what color, Elizabeth? And a new couch! Way cool!

I’ve been spending about four days a week in the library, because the bookstore is quite a hike and I can’t afford to go every day. It’s nice, but it just doesn’t do it for me. I do love it, though!

  • Kath Calarco says:

I’m down with Elizabeth K’s suggestion: Public Library. I especially like the older ones, you know, the ones that were actually built to be a library. All those granite stairs and oak shelves. How cool is that? The one in my town has a reading area furnished with big winged chairs and comfy couches. Did I mention the oriental rug?

Go there and prosper, my friend. Seems like every town has a public library, I’m hoping. :)

(And there’s no underlying pressure to buy a book…)

    • Natasha Fondren says:

I loved libraries growing up, Kath! I’ve been spending four days a week in one, and it’s nice. It has granite stairs, but no oak shelves. Well, a few, but most are metal. There is a nice comfy chair that I like to write in, but it’s just not the same for me. I just love the bookstore!

  • We went to the bookstore last night. There is just something about them that appeals to me. I know what you mean. It’s not the same as a library. Can’t go too often though or I’d be broke. As it is, I put two books back and only brought four home. The ones I put back were on sale, but I had to be realistic about which ones I actually might read in the near future.

    The ceiling looks wonderful!

    • Natasha Fondren says:

Sarah, I get the exact same feeling going to a bookstore that I used to get going to church. It’s a spiritual experience for me.

  • Dat’s right purty thare.

  • Very nice pastel on the ceiling.

I no longer have an addiction to bookstores now that I get ARCs. Spy, if you need a review in the future drop me a line.

  • I am very impressed. I spend a lot of my time looking up at my ceiling wishing it could be a color other than white. You did a fabulous job! If you pass thru Utah, you can do mine LOL.

And I love bookstores, too. Similarly, libraries. When my kids and I are at a different city, we always have to check out the library.
