Time to Barricade and Write

Time to get a ton of writing done. I’m barricading myself in until Tuesday. Items gathered:

  • Bananas
  • Chocolate Chips
  • Marshmallows
  • Coffee
  • Ovaltine
  • Almond Milk
  • Sweet Potato Chips
  • Chocolate
  • The Internet
  • Facebook
  • Good Books

I have other, healthy food. This is just my comfort food that gets me going while writing. I might pop down to Books & Company and barricade myself there, but… I think I might stay here with my cats. They cuddle.

So what are your supplies for a writing barricade? How do you get a ton of writing done?

I was reading your list and thinking “no cheese?” I hope that’s with your healthy foods. I love my cheese.

I don’t barricade myself. I’m kind of a steady writer (if you could “starts and stops” steady). I set weekly goals and try to reach them instead of one mad marathon.

    Have fun writing!

    • Natasha Fondren says:

Oh, Edie!!! I LOVE cheese! Oh, you shouldn’t mention it. I seriously get tears in my eyes. (Not kidding.) But I’m allergic, remember? Instant asthma attack?

If I eat no dairy for about a week, and then I have a pizza, I can generally do it for one meal without getting an asthma attack. Usually. But I’ve used up my dairy allotment, and had to use my inhaler yesterday. :-(

I’ve been trying to do the starts and stops thing. I prefer working that way, but it doesn’t seem to be giving me the results I want. :-(

  • Rick says:

Lucky Charms. No lie. And a coffee pot. And photos. I go th rough magazines, see intriguing pictures and cut them out and tape them to the wall. And I talk to my cat about what I’m going to write and tell her to get out of my den and guard the door against non-writing intruders and reality in general. She holds out for catnip. I stand up for my rights and tell her its to early, the other pets will smell it on her breath. She jumps on my keyboard and lays down. I run to the kitchen, grab the catnip, go back and grab the cat, and leave her with the open back to sniff to the bar closes. Then I retire to the den, study the pictures I’ve selected through the bracing aroma of brewed coffee, and start typing.

And ice cream- did I mention ice cream?

    • Natasha Fondren says:

Ice cream?! No! Don’t say it, Rick! I’ll start bawling for sure!

Guard-cats! I love it! LOLOL. I need to brew some coffee, too. I need to start. Right now. In a few seconds.

Good, I see you lost the Internet for a couple of days. That should help a lot!

    • Natasha Fondren says:

*snicker* It would, if I could get unaddicted! :-) But seriously, the internet goes off for an hour, and I get ten minutes. Then off for another hour. :-)

It’s the best I can do!

  • Edie says:

Natasha, I forgot you were allergic. So sorry.

    • Natasha Fondren says:

LOL, it’s okay, Edie! Somehow, when I talk about it, it may be torture, but I can taste and smell and enjoy it all over again. After I’m done with my self-pitying whine, I almost feel as if I’ve eaten it for real!

Gosh. Cheese. It’s gotta be the perfect food.

  • Oh, I’d so like to barricade until Tuesday! I’m jealous. :(

If I could barricade, I’d take apple cinnamon or honey nut Cheerios, to be nibbled dry (seriously, they feel like a treat, but they’re kinda/sorta good for you, plus, if you eat them one at a time it takes a really long time to empty a little bowl) Green tea and water (no coffee, makes me need to pee too often)

Definitely no Internet, Facebook or phone….

    • Natasha Fondren says:

Lainey, it hasn’t been working out so well. Well, there’s always… in two hours….

Cheerios is a great idea! No Internet, even better. :-(

  • Kath Calarco says:

Why am I not surprised that Edie mentioned cheese? :)

Hope all went well and your wrote as if a giant tornado pushed your pen.

  • Robin Altman says:

Green tea with a lollipop periodically dipped into it. Yum. Also, green tea and whole wheat Cheeze-Its. Although, Adam in his meanie mode pointed out that there are like a thousand calories in a giant bowl of Cheeze-Its. But they’re whole wheat! Shouldn’t that negate the calories?

    • Natasha Fondren says:

Seriously?! Wow! That’s something I’ve never tried, Robin! LOL! I’ve totally gotten out the yummy tea you got me, though. Your two tea tins are two of three that I brought with me! (I had to narrow down from an ENTIRE CUPBOARD of four shelves of tea, LOL…)

  • G says:

    My computer.

I play “Free Cell” while writing. Helps me get into that logical/stratergy mood that I require when I write.

And how do I get a ton a writing done? By being away from the family.

As much as I love my family, they ramp up the stress level by as much as 75% throughout the evening and on weekends. I can’t even remotely write a blog post if I’m in the same area as they are.

  • Barrie Summy says:

tea, muffins from Trader Joe’s, coffee, half-and-half, popcorn, apples. Gah! I’m boring!!

  • Eric Mayer says:

I wish someone would tell me how to get a ton of writing done. I really need to. I do know the Internet is death to writing.

  • Nadine says:

Yum, that all sounds so good!!

Let’s see. Not sure what I need when I barricade myself but your list sounds pretty good!!

  • Melanie says:

I’m so glad you mentioned healthy food because I’d be bouncing off the walls in a matter of minutes. I hope you’re getting a lot done!
