A Mother’s Indulgence
After my dad died when I was about ten, I used to spend lots of time over at my best friends’ houses while my mom worked. One thing that totally fascinated me, and still does, was my one friend’s mom’s Sunday Nap.
It was sacrosanct, which is saying something as she had THREE BOYS and a girl. As far as I remember, no one ever dared open her door to disturb her Sunday nap. (This was probably a hard-won achievement after years of training, but all I remember is that no one disturbed her during her Sunday nap.)
What fascinated me is that (as far as I knew), she never took a nap on another day. Just on Sundays.
For some weird reason, I got it into my head that when I grew up, I was going to have a Sunday Nap, too.
Sunday ended up being my busiest teaching day. I’d start at 8am and teach until 9:30 or 10pm. Usually, though, I’d have at least an hour free during the day, and I’d always take a nap.
A nap on Sunday is unlike a nap on any other day. It’s more relaxing. I don’t feel like I’m being lazy; I feel like it’s okay to have this indulgence. I always wake up smiling. My cats always curl up with me. It’s the best sleep of my week.
How about you? Do you nap? Do you nap on Sundays? Is Sunday napping a popular thing for mothers?
One thing for sure, mothers sure deserve it.
Happy Mother’s Day, you mothers!

No, I don’t nap, but recently I notice that I begin to flag temporarily around mid-afternoon so perhaps the naps are approaching.
I wasn’t even tired! I took a nap because I felt like enjoying doing nothing.
I nap. Mainly because of my autoimmune issues. It seems more like a sleep of the dead. But it’s sweet in that my two teens move heaven and earth to keep Pirate Boy out of my room (I maybe get to nap once or twice a week) at that time. They want me to get my rest.
Naps just aren’t as fun when they’re forced instead of an indulgence. But that’s AWESOME about the teens! Definitely sweet! Especially since that’s no small feat, LOL!
I dreamt of napping on Sunday. Instead I went to bed super early and got about 10 hours of sleep!
Oooh, nice! 10 hours of sleep is great!
I won a gold medal in napping at the last Olympics. It’s one of those sports they don’t really televise.
Oh, I nap. Weekend naps are sweet. Weekday naps are nice, too. If I have a cancellation, I nap. On Fridays I work at one office in the morning, and another in the afternoon. If I finish my morning early, I run home to take a quick nap and then go to my afternoon office. My brain loves me a nap.
Oh yes! Napping is a great sport! I did a lot of napping when I taught. Not so much now. But naps are wonderful, wonderful things!
