WIP is Finished!

Stand down Deadline Alert. Natasha has been reported to be both sane and approachable.

Thank goodness. This one was hard and it stressed me out, for some reason.

How are taxes? I finished mine in January, but I’m still waiting on a 1099. Yeah, I know. I know. I was just hoping to save the hassle. There’s still a chance I could be emailed the numbers, which would be fine with me.

Speaking of which, one of my other pubs put the numbers in the wrong spot. Annoying. Yeah, yeah. I know. Yes, I know.

I have five WIPs in the wings, and I’m hoping to get three of them done by the end of May. I finally want to try self-publishing: I’m not convinced I couldn’t have better royalties on my own, with a lower price point. But I have another one or two for one of my pubs, and then my YA to query agents/NY.

The YA is the one I most want to finish, but I’m anxious to get all of them done.

Wait.

Not “anxious.”

I mean, I am calmly looking forward to when they will all be done.

The only “craft” goal I have for the next month is this: I want to write without forcing an adrenalin-rush freak out in order to grind out my word count. I still want to write fast a lot, but I want it to be slow and steady throughout the day, like a turtle.

Slow and calm and relaxed like a turtle.

Ohhhmmmmmmm.

I might take a day off tomorrow. *waits for the world to come to a groaning halt* Probably not. I don’t know.

Do you take a day off between WIPs? What’s your foremost writing goal, right now?

Congrats on finishing! How about “eager” instead of “anxious.” People often misuse the two words — though I know you don’t. If I planned on finishing three books by May, I’d be anxious. I get anxious in the kitchen when I’m making three things for dinner, and they all need to be done in twenty minutes.

I take off a few days between books and clean, buy food, pick up dog dirt. The fun stuff I let go while concentrating on finishing the book.

I finished my third revision on Thursday. I’m judging contest entries (I had 4 to judge for one contest, and was asked if I’d take 3 that someone wasn’t able to judge on another contest). I finished all but 2 entries. I also did family stuff yesterday and today.

    • Natasha Fondren says:

Eager is perfect, Edie! I definitely was trying for a new word to reframe my feelings.

Cleaning is a good one. I’ve had a few more days off for being sick, but hopefully everything will be okay.

  • Eric Mayer says:

Great about the WIP. Hope it does well for you.

Turtles go ohmmmm? I dunno. I’ve seen some snapping turtles that go SSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!

Tax? What, me worry? When there are extension forms to download.

  • G says:

    Congrats.

My foremost writing goal is getting my curret W.i.P. completed. I was able to get over one last hump yesterday (4/10) and thus was able to tie up another plot line, with two more left to finish.

I’m hoping to get the remaining two tied up this week, which will be followed another round of copious notes covering page 120 to the end (I have notes written for the first 119. I printed as I wrote, then took editing notes during my down time), which will be followed by a first draft rewrite, which will be followed by a fellow blogger who was gracious enough to accept my request of proofing my first draft.

    HELP!!!

    • Natasha Fondren says:

Ayeee, George! I’m feeling overwhelmed, just reading that list!!

Cool on the hump. Good luck with the last six!

  • Kath Calarco says:

YAY YOU! I love it when someone reaches their goal. If only I could do the same, lol.

Time off between WIPs? Heck, yeah, I do. Haven’t written in any of my WIPs (three in the wings) since probably last summer. Oh well. Had other stuff going on, like writing papers for school, moving, and then there was that ill chihuahua (she’s running now!). Writing has always come in ebbs and tides and I used to freak about the ebbs, but not any more. Life is too short and I don’t mind the thought of doing book signings from the nursing home.;-)

    • Natasha Fondren says:

Running!!! Wow, Kath! Oh wow, that’s just wonderful!

You’ve been busy! I’ll totally come get my book signed from your nursing home!

  • Bernita says:

Such a wonderful feeling to finish!
I always feel so pure and holy after I wrestled with tax forms.
My writing goal is to screw up the courage to join Face Book!

  • My foremost goal at the moment is trying to get my motivation back

  • Paul says:

    Congrats to you!!

My goal is to finish my WIP and send it to my agent. Since I am waiting on feedback from a reader or two I am working on another book, experimenting w/changing the POV from 3rd to 1st.

    • Natasha Fondren says:

Good luck, Paul! I love switching 3rd to 1st or vice versa. It always makes my writing more powerful.

  • I’m on deadline and it’s going SLOWWWLY. SCAR consumes all my attention. Then I have a thriller to look forward to, as well as reworking an old book entirely. Plus querying SCAR and another book for Ainsley. My year is BOOKED solid! Oh, and short stories…I have a list. Plus summer’s coming and kidlets will be home… Sheesh. I guess I’ll give up sleeping.

  • Lana says:

Well, I don’t have writing goals, per se, but I did recently finish a painting. Unless I’m particularly inspired by another idea, I don’t typically start another painting immediately. Right now I haven’t got any new ideas, so I’m not worrying about it. I know something will come. Until then, I’m going to take advantage of nice weather & an upcoming long weekend. :)
