Some Adventurer I Am
I never want to leave. I’m all settled near my best friend and her daughter (my niece), and it’s totally awesome. My campground is spacious, quiet, beautiful, and my backyard is a little creek. I’m sure when it starts getting cold and Glenn gets home and the Jeep is fixed, I’ll start to get “hitch itch.”
For now? It’s amazing to be living in the same city as one’s best friend. And I get to see the little niece a ton! I got to pick her up and carry her into the house, which may sound silly, but pretty much made my week.
Summers will definitely be spent here.
I feel a little embarrassed to be so happy. Since this blog is mostly supposed to be about writing, I’ll say this: working one job only ROCKS. Wow!
I get up. I write. And then I get to make dinner, read, go to a movie, spend time with my best friend, putz around the camper, catch up on little stuff, and… THAT’S IT!
I have tons of writing ideas. The other amazing thing about working one job is that my creative mind only has to stir the story pot. It’s wonderful.
This is the life. I feel like apologizing, I’m so happy. It’s going to rain in two days, and since I haven’t yet repaired the leaks to the camper, I probably won’t be so annoyingly happy. Maybe.
And here’s more happy news: Marcia Colette’s Stripped was released this week! Yay! Wishing her a ton of sales!
How do you balance your day job with your writing job? Or your non-fiction writing with your fiction writing? Do you find it hard to juggle it all? And for those of you who’ve put your foot down and just write or just work one job, how does that feel?

Natasha Fondren is a writer traveling the U.S. in a camper with her four cats. She is currently enjoying the lizards and desert heat in Arizona.
I can feel your joy. It sounds awesome.
My husband was home today, and we saw Julie/Julia this afternoon. (It was great!) Then we made a couple stops and came home to a lot of emails. I have to make dinner (after the movie, I’m inspired!). I have three critiques to do for friends. I’m guessing I won’t get much of my own writing done today. I hate that.
I want to see that movie, Edie! I saw The Ugly Truth yesterday. Even though a lot of it was cliche, the funny parts were the funniest parts I’ve ever seen. We’re talking screaming-laughing and tears running down my face.
Julie/Julia is on my list! I read bits of the book a couple years ago!
I’m glad you’re so happy. It’s been a long-time coming.
Now, stay that way!!!!
LOL, Susan! I keep telling myself the same thing!
Natasha, you sound so happy and I wish you’d stop apologizing for it! You deserve this! I wish I could get out of the house and write on a computer someplace else. I spend a lot of time daydreaming about a laptop…
Someone from my college wrote The Ugly Truth. No one I know, but still.
Seriously? Oh, Melanie, I wish you had said earlier! I just sold a laptop for $15. It wasn’t great, but it would’ve done for writing! I totally would have mailed it to you.
That is SO cool about The Ugly Truth! I laughed harder than I’ve laughed in a movie in a long time!
I’m feeling a bit jealous at the moment.
Awww, Charles! Wish you and Lana could pop over and chat by the campfire with me!
“Summers will definitely be spent here.” This sentence just makes my heart sing with joy!!!
It’s been 17 years since we lived close together – how crazy is that!?! I think we are both just reveling in it
And we deserve to after 17 years!
Can’t wait to see you and cook out tonight!!! Be warned though, Brie will want to jump into the creek
Yay! Nancy, it is GREAT living by a friend! Isn’t it amazing? I feel like I have a social life again! LOL! Just… wow. Having a friend close by is amazing. And I don’t feel like Brie is growing up so fast she won’t know who I am, or that I’ll be some random strange relative who drops in once a year.
There were totally kids playing in the creek! It’s a great creek for wading. Can’t wait!
Now if you really want to have some fun, make sure to ask the natives about Sasquatch. There’s nothing like trotting all over the country chasing monsters. Really. Or maybe look into local ghost stories or treasure legends.
Also, do not stay long in towns with a Bates motel, lol.
Enjoy, Natasha!
LOL, Rick! That WOULD be cool. There are people who do that. I’m behind on my writing, but after this weekend, my weekends are going to be spent on adventures! Next weekend is the county fair, and then I want to hike in this really beautiful park, and then I’m totally researching haunted houses. Great idea, Rick!
I find that I get more writing done from killing my wireless internet than anything else. I am so pulled by the easy time wasting possibilities of the internet. Work does interfere, that’s for sure!
I know, me too! Sometimes I can use it like candy (one more edit and then you can play on Facebook), but mostly? It’s a distraction. It’s one reason why I’m not in a hurry to figure out how we’re going to have internet. (The other is that someone in the campground has an unsecured connection, LOL…)
I’m so glad you’re having such a great time! And just think – this isn’t just a vacation, and then real life beckons. This is your real life! That’s just too cool for words.
Isn’t it unbelievable, Robin? I can’t go on enough about how cool it is to get up, finish my work, and then get to cook dinner, spend time with friends, and just… live!
[...] life in Ohio rocked. Except for Dish Day, which was a lot of work there. But I didn’t want to leave: I was close to my best friend and niece. I miss them daily. Especially my niece, who is turning [...]
